New Year's Day January 1, 2012 GATHERING PRELUDE May you feel the Spirit of God touch your spirit during this hour of worship. PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS GREETING A new day has dawned. A new year has begun. Praise the God of new beginnings. Praise the Lord! * OPENING HYMN - "Angels We Have Heard on High" - UMH #238 OPENING PRAYER Eternal God, come to us this day, as we ponder what lies before us in the year ahead. Teach us to see opportunities for growth. Help us find moments of grace and forgiveness. Be a light to our path, that we may walk confidently in your ways; through Jesus Christ our hope and redeemer. Mary Ellen Huzzard INVITATION TO COVENANT THE COVENANT L: And now, brothers and sisters, let us bind ourselves with willing bonds to our covenant God, and take the yoke of Christ upon us. P: I am no longer my own, but yours. Put me to what you will; rank me with whom you will; put me to doing; put me to suffering; let me be employed for you or laid aside for you; exalted for you or brought low for you; let me be full; let me be empty; let me have all things; let me have nothing; I freely and heartily yield all things to your pleasure and your disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, you are mine, and I am yours. So be it. And this covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. The chancel rail is open for prayer during the meal. PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION * CLOSING HYMN - "O God, Our Help in Ages Past," (v.1,2,3,6) - UMH #117 * DISMISSAL WITH BLESSING Go with the blessings of the One who gives us the seasons of our lives, who wipes away every tear, who is our eternal home.
