Ashton United Methodist Church (Ashton, MD) is seeking a musician for worship. Candidates must be capable pianists and accompanists. Additional instruments would be happily welcomed as well. Music includes hymns and may also include other styles of music, such as contemporary Christian music, jazz, gospel. The musician will select pieces in consultation with the pastor. Weekly responsibilities include preparing and playing instrumental music and accompanying a singer. Expected time commitment is a total of 3-5 hours a week.
Worship is at 9:30am on Sunday mornings. Worship is one service at 9:30am on Sunday morning for about an hour. The musician and singer should also plan to practice together on Sunday morning. There may be a few other special services throughout the year, such as Christmas Eve or Good Friday.
The musician will be invited to provide music at weddings and funerals when they occur. This will depend on the musician's availability, and additional compensation is provided.
Ashton UMC takes COVID-19 precautions very seriously, and there is currently no congregational singing nor choir singing. Masks are required. When the pandemic ends, we anticipate expanding this role from musician to music director, with more congregational involvement in music (choir, etc). If the musician wishes to assume this role, they would receive additional responsibilities, hours, and compensation at that time.
Compensation is competitive with comparable positions.
To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to the church office.
